Map Guide for Harvest Moon DS and Cute DS

When a player emailed me with respect to the little Walkthrough for the first week in Cute, bewildered and out of her depth completely, I had a sudden inspiration. I have written 'map' sections in previous guides actually, so it is not entirely new for me, but I think that a little walkthrough of the Valley itself could be useful, with brief descriptions not only of the buildings but of the people inhabiting them and the best gift for each. I have a Characters Guide that does that, but that is organised according to the person rather than the location.

An hour after I began this post, I wrote a new 'Map' section for both my General Guide and my 1st Year Events Calendar Guide. The updated versions of both guides should be uploaded to IGN later today.

For any one who may need the information NOW:

Your farmhouse basically stands almost in the centre of the Northern part of the Valley. The path that leads south from your farm goes to a place where a number of paths meet. I term this the Crossroads. To the right of the Crossroads is a bridge that crosses the river from west to east. The river effectively cuts the Valley in half.

On the western side of the River, you will find the following:

Your Farm

Northeast of your farm:

The Goddess Spring: This is where you will find the Harvest Goddess after you have rescued 60 Sprites. Drop an offering into the Spring to persuade her to appear. Her favourite offering is a strawberry. Many of the villagers go to the Goddess Spring when the weather is fine. You can find Hugh, Rock, Muffy and Cody here on a regular basis. Below the Goddess Spring is:

The Sprite Company Tree: This is where you will find all Harvest Sprites. There is a reception area where you will find Guts, Jet and the postboxes for every Team. To the left of the reception area is a large pot where you will find the Baby after you have rescued 60 Sprites. Feed the Baby and ultimately he will grant wishes for you. Guts is the Sprite who organises the Sprite Labour force for you in exchange for medals. Jet sells special items from the counter, including Accessories, Records and the Harvest Moon cards. The most important Accessories are the Necklaces that are offered when your tools have been upgraded to the next level. The highest Necklace is the Mythic Necklace. In the northern wall of this chamber is the entrance to the Casino. Here you will find three gaming tables and a window where you can purchase medals as well as exchanging them for prizes. It is here that you can buy special crop seeds, the Teleport Stone, the Love Bangle and the Truth Bangle as well as the Red Cloak. When you have purchased the Red Cloak, the Godhand and Miracle Glove will be offered. Many events occur when you exit the Sprite Company Tree so visit often!

The 2nd Hot Spring: This will be unlocked when you have used the 1st Hot Spring 100 times for an hour each time.

South of your Farm:

A Row of Homes consisting, from left to right of:

Wally's house: here you will find Wally, Chris and Hugh
Grant's house: here you will find Grant and Kate
Hardy's Clinic/House: here you will find Hardy and, on Wednesdays, Elli and Trent from Mineral Town

Northwest of this row of homes, you will find a wide stairway leading north to:

Romana's Villa: here you will find Romana, Sebastian and Lumina and, on Monday mornings, Mary from Mineral Town
Witch Princess Hut: here you will find the Witch Princess

Directly south of the row of three houses, on the other side of the same path, from left to right are:

The Blue Bar: here you will find Griffin and Muffy
The Inner Inn: here you will find Ruby on the ground floor, Rock and Nami on the second floor and the two guest bedrooms on the 2nd floor where Mineral Town visitors stay
The Girls' guest bedroom is on the left and here you will find Karen on Tuesday, Elli on Wednesday, Ann on Friday and Popuri on Sunday
The Boys' guest bedroom is on the right and here you will find Trent on Wednesday, Grey on Thursday, Cliff on Saturday and Rick on Sunday
To the left of both guest rooms in the corridor, you will find a wooden Orange crate. It is here that Van has his stall on every day that ends in 3 or 8, beginning with the 3rd day of the season and ending with the 28th day.

South of the Crossroads, you will find the following:

Daryl's house and laboratory: here you will find Daryl on the ground floor and Leia the Mermaid in the basement. The basement will be locked until you have 100 FP with Daryl.
Gustafa's Yurt: here you will find Gustafa

Gustafa's Yurt is on the right side of a path that leads south from the crossroads and has a view of the river from the western shore. Daryl's house is on the left side of this path and can be reached from another path that leads south from the Blue Bar.

Turtle Pond: this is almost directly south of Daryl's house. It can be reached from either of the paths that lead from north to south.

The Beach: this is at the southern edge of the Valley. The entrance is below Turtle Pond. Most Festivals occur at the Beach between 10.00 a.m. and 5.50 p.m. The exceptions in terms of time are the Fireworks Festival, which occurs from 6.00 p.m. to 8.50 p.m. and the Year End Festival which begins at 6.00 p.m. and ends at 11.50 p.m.

If you go west from Turtle Pond, you will find a caravan park and, a little northwest of that, a tower on stilts. You can reach this area as well if you take the path that leads south from the Blue Bar.

In the Caravan, you will find Cody.
In the Tower, you will find the Twins, Patrick and Kassey. They make fireworks. You have to climb a rope to reach their home.

Cutting the Valley in half is the River. At the top of the river is a Waterfall. Behind the Waterfall is a secret Field named the Super Field. Boulders on either side prevent access to the Super Field until you are able to claim the Legendary Sword on the 255th floor of the 2nd Mine. In Cute, you will not be able to claim it until ALL 6 tools are upgraded to Mystrile. In the original HM DS, you can claim it if your experience level is at Mystrile even if all the tools themselves have not been upgraded. To remove the boulders, equip the Legendary Sword, stand next to a boulder and press the 'A' button. Note: You do NOT use the Legendary Sword here as a tool. You can use it as a tool inside the Mines to defeat Dark Creatures, however.

You can cross the River by means of a bridge in the centre of the Valley. When you have destroyed the two boulders on either side of the Waterfall, you can take a path there above the river to cross from west to east.

East of the River are the following, from North to South:

At the far North:

Carter's Tent: here you will find Carter and Flora, living chastely together in separate sleeping bags

The Excavation Site: here you will find the four Mines, but only when they are unlocked. When each mine is unlocked, an entrance will be created in the northern wall of the Excavation Site. It is at the Excavation Site that you can dig for jewelry that ships for 2000G and can be sold to Van for up to 3250G.

A path leads south from Carter's Tent to some Windmills. Below the Windmills is another crossroads of sorts. You can continue south along the path or you can take a path that leads from the bridge to the exit from the Valley. From the windmills, you will see the exit on your right and the bridge on your left. YOU NEVER CAN LEAVE THE VALLEY!!! Other residents come and go from the Valley, but your character never can visit Mineral Town in this game.

If you go west from the exit towards the bridge, you will find Vesta's farm. In fact, on the northern side of this path, from left to right are:
Vesta's Storeroom: here you will find Vesta, Marlin and Celia in the early evening when Vesta sells seeds, including the seasonal seeds sold at the Supermarket, tree saplings and Mushroom seeds (spores really).
Vesta's Home: here you will find Vesta, Marlin and Celia

On the south side of this path you will see Vesta's fields. Her crops always are ripe and ready to harvest, even on the first day of any season, which can be rather annoying!

There are two paths actually that lead south from here. One is the path that continues south from the Excavation Site. The other is a path that begins south of the bridge and skirts the river.

If you take the path south of the Windmills, to the right you will find:

The Construction Site owned by Barney's Circus: After your child is born, Barney will move into the Valley and you will find his huge colourful tent on this site.

The 1st Hot Springs: this must be unlocked by an event with Flora when she reaches 250 FP.

The tomb of your character from FoMT or MFoMT if you insert a GBA cartridge to unlock the visitors from Mineral Town.

To the left is Galen's house, more easily reached by taking the path that leads south along the river's edge.

Take the path south from the bridge to find a little hill on the right where Galen's house stands. If you take the path south from the windmills, the hill will be on the left.

Galen's House: This is where you will find Galen and his wife Nina. Both are pivotal characters. Galen will give you a Fishing Rod if you visit him on a sunny Saturday between noon and 1.50 p.m. and make certain that no tool is equipped in your tool slot. Nina will knit you a Yule Stocking if she is at 255 FP and you visit her on a sunny morning in Winter to give her a ball of yarn. Note that she needs YARN, not wool so you will need the Yarnmaker.

I discovered a way to earn a LOT of gold(money) at once, but you must be good at the casino. All you do is exchange metads for pineapple seeds, then sell the seeds to Van's shop, he'll pay about 50,000 to 90,000 for 99 of them. I already have earned 2,000,000 and still have a loads more to sell.By the way, I luv Harvest moon DS Cute!

Freyashawk said...

Well, although this is true, it really is a slow way to make money because you will be required to spend an awful lot of (real world) time in the Casino. I personally believe that selling jewelry that you find at the Excavation Site to Van is the quickest way to make money as it takes little time to dig and you can leave and re-enter to find a new configuration.

Thank you, though, for sharing your comment!

well... I still play harvest moon cute and made it to the 30 year but how do you water your plants on bad weather? I still covered the whole valley with grass but i can't plant anywhere else.?!

Anonymous said...

How do you connect to gameboy advanced?? and when you do connect to it, what happens, and what do you do?? thanks.

Anonymous said...

what i do to make lot of gold is every day, i go around the valley (with the teleprtation stone to save time) and collect all of the weeds, flowers, rocks and stone and sell all but the rocks. i pound on the rocks with my hammer and use them to build cause my chickys have died to many times! after 2 years of doing that + farming, i have about 300,000. YAY! but i still can't find all of the harvest sprites...

Freyashawk said...

To the player who asked how to connect to a GBA: well, you don't!
You can play any GBA game in a DS system. The slot on the bottom of the DS fits GBA game cartridges. To unlock the additional characters and options in HM DS or Cute DS, place either FoMT or MFoMT in the GBA slot and place HM DS or Cute DS in the slot at the top of the DS while the power is turned OFF. Turn on the power and choose the option to play the DS game. The additional characters will be unlocked and Mineral Town characters will begin to visit the Valley each week.

As for the comment about shipping thousands of weeds and wild items is concerned: I suspect you are joking here. I can't imagine any player spending that much time and energy weeding and collecting items in the wilds FOR TWO YEARS!

Mind you, Harvest Moon allows you to live your life in any way you like. On the other hand, why have chickens at all if this sort of nomadic lifestyle is what you enjoy most? If you had chickens only to rescue Sprites, you could have sold them afterwards...

Anonymous said...

I wasn't joking cause i also own the HM boy for the ds so i learned alot! i go around every day to do some scavaging and use the things i dont' sell to give to people and cook with. It's relly usefull. im gonna sell my chickens so they don't have to meet the same cruel fate as the others!

notha question: i cant open the first hot spring even though both Flora and Carter are both on 255 FP. i try to go on tuesday nights, but i was wondering if there has to be a specific weather condition of somthin. And i dont remember what heart events i did with Rock, is there any way to check?

Anonymous said...

why won't Kai for FoMT come in other seasons when you have FoMT in your GBA slot?

Freyashawk said...

I answered the question about Kai in a new post on this site.

As far as Flora's Hot Spring Event is concerned, I devoted an entire post to that as well on this site.

It has to be a sunny day as the post stated. I would try to trigger it on any sunny night apart from Sunday or Tuesday if I were you.

As far as knowing which events you have experienced with Rock is concerned, my Courtship and Marriage Guide actually has a section where the entire text of every heart and rival heart event is given. So the answer to your question is 'Yes, there is'. Go to the Courtship and Marriage Guide. The link is on the right side of this page.

How do I get the Barney Circus to open for business?

On HarvestMoon Island of Happiness i cant seem to get to the next heart event with Shea after "The Strongest" heart event. My guide says it can happen in any season and with any kind of weather i have the preconditions to....

Thanks for making faqs and a blog for Harvest Moon! Helps me a lot!

I am in year two in Fall and I started having cutscenes where my girl says "Ouch!" when i access my fridge. What does this mean? Thanks :D

Freyashawk said...

Anon, the 'Ouch' signifies nothing in terms of gameplay. It is simply a little touch of 'realism' added to the game. It has no value in points towards or against the Farming Degree. It is totally random. If you reload your game and open the fridge/tool box/beauty box/cabinet again, it will not occur.

I asked Natsume about this when it first occurred in the original HM DS. It is nothing more than detail, a programming addition to add a little spice.

Joyce said...

Wow!! Cool guide!!! Thx thx!! Is all the game listed here available for PC?

Freyashawk said...

No, I am afraid most of them are NOT available for the PC unless you are downloading illegal versions of the games. Most of the game guides I write are for the small handheld systems such as the GBA and now the DS and PSP. I have written some guides for console games, especially Harvest Moon, and a few game guides for PC games such as 'Virtual Villagers' and 'Fish Tycoon'. On the whole, though, the games I cover are created for handheld systems.

I was wondering, what items does flora like? She hasn't opened the first hot spring and i have no idea wha to do!

Freyashawk said...

Anon, if you look at the right side of this page, you will see links to all my guides. There is a section devoted to Flora both in my HM DS and my HM Cute DS Courtship and Marriage Guides. That will give you her likes, dislikes, birthday, schedule and so on. An easy gift for Flora is chocolate, but read the guide for a complete list.

If you are playing HM DS, the Hot Spring Event is her Blue Heart Event. If you are playing Cute, it is her 250 FP Event. I wrote a post about the hot spring Event on this site.

How can we find 60 sprites? Celia is already blue yay!

Freyashawk said...

Anon, look on the right side of this page under the heading of Harvest Moon DS and you will see a link to my 101 Sprites Guide. It gives the method for rescuing ALL the Sprites but it includes a section that lists the 60 easiest Sprites to rescue.

Anonymous said...

Where is the goddness pond? I can't seem to find it to get Celia in blue.

Freyashawk said...

Anon, the Goddess Spring/Goddess Pond are one and the same. You need to walk north from the crossroads along the path on the west bank of the river towards the Sprite Company Tree and Goddess Pond/Spring to trigger the event. Start at the Crossroads.

Anonymous said...

Where are the crossroads i go to this event all the time and i can't seem to find Celia ever there!!!

Lizbit said...

Hey Freya, I've been a big fan of your walkthroughs for quite some time now. Thanks so much for making them!

My one question regarding Harvest Moon DS is where is Karen's Supermarket and where is the blacksmith? I can't seem to find where they fit.

Thanks!
Liz

Freyashawk said...

Liz, actually this information is in the General Guide as there are sections that deal with all businesses. Almost all of the businesses in HM DS and Cute DS are located physically in Mineral Town. You need to use your telephone to make orders from Karen or from Grey at Saibara's Smithy. In like fashion, you need to telephone the Church in Mineral Town if you want Carter to lift a curse from a tool or accessory.

amanda_lovebug said...

I can't find the hot springs. Where or what are they? how can i find it?

Freyashawk said...

Amanda, if you read this article, you would see that both Hot Springs in HM DS and HM Cute DS have to be UNLOCKED. An event with Flora or the birth of your child will unlock the 1st Hot Spring near the Construction Site. Use that Hot Spring 100 times for an hour each time to unlock the 2nd Hot Spring near the Sprite Company Tree. Please do read the Guide. The Event with Flora is her Blue Heart Event and it's the same Event in Cute, but occurs when she reaches 250 FP.

Freya,

Great guides! I have been reading yours since you first started writing them and you are a big help!! (the mines always bugged me)

So I just wanted to say a big thank you ^.^

Freyashawk said...

Thank you very much, Penny! I need some positive feedback sometimes.

I just realised today that I have no access to my old guide files and therefore cannot update ANY old game guides until I find them... real organisation problems based on having gone through more than one laptop in the past four years or so...

Tammy said...

In HM IoF, When playing a girl I met Shea, but no gray heart was there. and playing as a male it has not appeired for the Witch Princess, is this a game glitch?

Freyashawk said...

Tammy, this is covered in a post about IoH. Both the Witch Princess and Shea are considered 'secret' eligible partners. That is why the Heart is not displayed on their portraits, but you always can see Heart Levels in the Characters Page of your Farm Menu.

I went in to the dinner on a snowy day waiting for Natalie's yellow heart event and an event happened, it was titled " Natalie's sandwiches" or something like that..

She offered me a taste and it came up with two responces " lie" or " be honest" I lied and Pierre came in... he... lied also saying it had a distinked taste and rushed away to " turn off the oven he left on".

I don't know if you had mentioned this before but i found it intresting as I don't think it's related to a heart event... but ya...

What are all of the shippable items for Harvest Moon DS Cute and Where do you find them?

Freyashawk said...

Anon, I have added a specific link to my Shipping Items Guide for HM DS to the HM Cute DS Guide links on the right side of the page. In terms of general aspects, HM DS and HM Cute DS are identical. You can use any of my many HM DS Guides, including my Shipping Items Guide, for Cute. You will find links to all my guides on the right side of this page.

hi, your guide is wonderful!!! helps me a lot!!
but i have a question..

i'm playing harvest moon ds cute, and whenever i put something in my rucksack, they accumulate in one slot in my rucksack. for example, i put 20 sunblock in my rucksack and they accumulate only in one slot. but i can sepparate them one by one, so whenever i want to give something for a present, they totally gone!!!! please help me...

thank you...

Freyashawk said...

Anon, tap the stack of items with your stylus, then tap an empty slot to move one item from the stack. It doesn't always work smoothly but that's the way to do it.

How do you get the yule stocking?! I've already had a child and Nina died google and ask.com arent helping

Freyashawk said...

Anon, you are looking in the wrong places. The information IS included in my HM DS/Cute DS guides. You will find links to all my guides on the right side of the page.

Nina MADE the Yule Stocking for you, but you never fetched it before she died, and therefore, Galen has it. You need to raise Galen's FP, then visit him to obtain it from him.

Dear Freya,

I have been trying to figure out how to contact you directly to ask for permission to use bits and pieces of your HMDSC guides. I have used a couple pieces cause your guides are awesome and I use them for everything.

I have been building a fun little site combining the best of all HMDSC walkthroughs, cheat pages, etc. and have a page crediting where I get my info but I am afraid someone won't notice the page and think I stole it. I don't want to take credit for others peoples work I just want to show the best of it off in my own way!

I hope this gets to you and I hope it's ok for me to have used a couple things. My email is XXXXXX. I'm not really worried about spam cause I get tons of it here already :p I hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for writing so many guides, without you we'd all be screwed!! XD

Sincerely,
Mandy

Mandy, I deleted your original comment but copied it and published it as it contained your email address. You really should NOT publish your email address on the internet. I will not publish any comment here that includes either a hyperlink to any site or an email address.

My email address is included in every guide I have written. It would have been better to have emailed me directly as that would have been safer for you. In any case, I have emailed you, giving you permission to use the information under two conditions: first, that you credit Freyashawk for it, as you assured me you have and secondly, that you include a link to my HarvestMoonForever site. Good luck with your efforts and Happy Harvesting!

Alyssa said...

Am I relieved to find that this is a current site!

Anyway, I would like to just say that I am, as many others, a big fan of your guides, Freyashawk.

Question 1: Harvest Moon ds: Can the evil little dog that sometimes appears at 8 hurt livestock that are inside fences? I leave my livestock out and use the weather control cheat to ensure sunshine, but I can't remember if they are attacked from behind the fence while I sleep obliviously...

Question 2: Tree of Tranquility: I am deeply, deeply bored of my game, but I have MONEYMONEYMONEY in this profile! I wish to pass on the game to my child, but my sheep seems to not want to give shining wool. I have tried everything, but Perfect quality is all I recieve. Any tips?

I would deeply appreciate your help.

Please keep making those amazing guides!

Freyashawk said...

Alyssa, unless Google begins to charge for blogspot sites, this site will remain current as long as I can manage it.

As for your questions...

Question 1. To be honest, it is a long time since I last played HM DS or Cute, sadly, but I seem to recall that, although fences SHOULD have made the animals immune from attack, this was not always the case. What you need to do is to leave your dog outside at night if you leave animals outside
and, if he has been trained and is at decent heart level, your Dog will chase the Wild Dog away.

I do believe that the material used to create the fence is significant. Fences made of Material Stone are much better than those made of branches or Material Wood (which disintegrates slowly over the course of time.)

Certainly in IoH, the Wild Dog can cause stress to animals even when they are ensconced safely inside a pen. I never leave my Animals outside all night, even when the weather is fine.

Question 2: In DS Harvest Moon games, the highest quality of product often is linked to winning an Animal Contest. You therefore never obtain the highest quality of Egg, Milk or Wool unless the Animal has won 1st prize at the appropriate Contest. This is not the case in Animal Parade and I do believe AP and ToT are almost identical where Animal Care is concerned... I know I wrote the Official Guide for ToT but I am basing this on my sometimes faulty memory here.

I will assume that your Sheep are at maximum heart level, if you are at the point where you could enter the next Generation. Shining Wool, both in ToT and Animal Parade, ALWAYS is a random result, although you have no chance of obtaining it at low heart levels. At maximum Heart Level, you will have a chance of obtaining Shining Wool, but it remains random. Do you reload and try again?

What is really odd and this has been an experience shared by other players as well is that neglect for one day sometimes creates Shining Product in ToT and Animal Parade. You would think it would be the opposite, but... Anyway, you could try it without saving the result if you do not obtain Shining Wool.

Dear Freya,
Where is the telephone in HM:DS Cute?I just can't seem to find it. And when I do find it? How do I call someone from Mineral Town. Do I just press A and it calls someone? Also, is there any way to make the Mineral Town bachelors come to Forget-me-not Valley more than once a week? I would really appreciate it if you answer. Thank you very for taking your time to make breakthroughs and tips for Harvest Moon lovers. (Also, do you know any action replay codes for DeSmuMe?)I will thank you in advance.

I shipped 1000 things and got the horse event where the sprite talks, but when I looked in the barn, the horse wasn't there. Do you know where it is? Also, if anyone knows what the sprite says when he gives you the horse, that would be useful. My game isn't in English so I can't really understand it.
Thank You!

Anon, I guess you didn't read my Guide because the Fishing Cheat is described in detail there. It exists only in the first version of the game and is a glitch that was eliminated in later versions... it doesn't exist in any versions of Cute.
