Marriage to Shea in Island of Happiness

********************************************************************

I feel that I have neglected one of the most colourful characters in Island of Happiness in the person of Shea, an eligible bachelor if your character is a girl.

If you are familiar with Peter Pan, you will understand what I mean when I say that Shea could be one of the 'lost boys'. Raised in the Jungle by a tribesman named Wada, he speaks a dialect of his own and his greatest interest in life is hunting.
Although you can find both Shea and Wada at a few of the festivals, on the whole, they live apart from the rest of the community.

It was when I decided to experience marriage to Shea that I discovered how different his ways were from those of the others. Marriage in Island of Happiness usually occurs at the Church in the Forest with the Harvest Goddess bestowing her usual blessing afterwards by tolling the bell. Marriage to Shea, on the other hand, occurs at Wada's hut. Wada presides and your character must drink a 'sacred drink' to become part of THEIR tribe before the marriage will be judged complete.

In the course of drinking the 'sacred drink', your character will display the skull that signifies poisoning and will fall to the ground briefly. She does recover, however, instantly and is able to assure Shea that she has not suffered any serious effects.

The proposal event is hilarious actually. Shea does not understand the significance of the 'Blue Feather' and asks if you can give one to Wada as well. Wada responds by smacking Shea! Once Shea realises that you are proposing marriage, he is thrilled and accepts with alacrity. As with other weddings, the marriage will occur a week later... In fact, Shea is proud of himself when he is able to tell Wada that the wedding should occur in a week's time. 'Oh, I know this one!' Shea exclaims happily, 'Will have ceremony in ... a week?' Wada then asks how long a week is, forcing Shea to admit that he too is ignorant of that little detail. Shea asks: 'Is it two tomorrows? Four tomorrows?'

Even if you do not wish to marry Shea on a permanent basis, every player should experience his events once.

Is that so when it comes to Shea's events? I simply cannot choose! While I still want to marry Vaughn, he seems... a little out of reach, I think. But Shea's adorable :) Take care.

Why does Shea call your character a 'guy'? O_O

Shea is adorable. I now went through all heart events for ALL bachelors as well as the weddings with them ... and then broke down and married Vaughn, despite my resolve to choose a guy without a rival. After all, this is a test cartridge and has to be sent back, so I can't keep the game... In my first 'real' game, I'll marry Mark or Shea to allow all the rival marriages I think.

Ryva, this is an early build of the game. It is possible that 'guy' will have been changed in the final retail version.

Aww. That's so cute. I have no clue whom to go for as Chelsea, but I would like on of my "games" to have all the rival couples together.

Freyashawk said...

I agree, Mar, where rival marriages are concerned. In IoH, it is even more important to allow the rival couples to marry if you wish to meet all possible characters and achieve 100% completion of your Characters List as each Rival Couple has a child.
Rather irresponsibly, I allowed my emotions to sway me in my 'test' game, and married Vaughn after experiencing ALL Heart Events with every bachelor. That means that Sabrina and Vaughn's child never will be born in that game, but since I must return the cartridge to Natsume, I felt I was entitled to wring a little joy out of the game before it vanished without a trace. In my own first 'permanent' game, I will marry Mark probably in order to allow Vaughn to marry Sabrina, although it will break my heart a little...

Actually, I have to admit that Vaughn is as reticent after marriage as he was as a bachelor. All he says to me at 10 hearts at home is: 'Hm... This is marriage, eh?'

I had been hoping that the guy rechristened by Mirabelle as the 'new, emotional Vaughn' would become more effusively romantic in the privacy of the marital home, but alas... Nonetheless, it is a delight to have him in my farmhouse day and night and not to be forced to bid him farewell every Thursday night on the beach... I'll enjoy it while I still can.

I was sort of hoping for Vaughn to change a little as well... Perhaps I should rethink my bachelor choices?
Hmm, perhaps Mark...

i am confused i experinced all heart event and he say when i see my characters name i fell funny but when i give him the blue feather he says "feather cannot eat"

In that case, you have not met all requirements for marriage. He will say that only if you haven't met the requirements. What is his heart level? Is it 10? It is not enough to experience the Heart Events to marry. Is the Harvest Goddess at 2 Hearts? Do you have the Husband Bed?

I, too, chose Vaughn in the end, though my first thought had been to marry Mark or possibly Shea in order to have all rival children.
I do have a question, though. The next few days after the marriage, when offering a gift (milk, chocolate, fodder, ect) to Vaughn, he replies with ". . . No thanks" and then accepts the gift anyways. Have his likes and dislikes changed suddenly? I cannot tel if his FP is going down because of these gifts, though after giving gifts for two days, his heart level is still red and at 10 small hearts on the 'assets' list.
Do you know what the deal is?

ok so i alredy got denny at red heart and i missed all his rival events but now i wanna marry shea or mark so can i get lanna and denny together to get married?

Freyashawk said...

HarvestMoonDSPyer, please look at the right side of the webpage and you will find a heading for each Harvest Moon game with links to each of the guides I have written beneath it. Please go to the Courtship and Marriage Guide for IoH for answers to all your questions as well as sections that describe how heart events and heart levels operate.

Anon: You should be able to trigger the Rival Heart Events for Denny and Lanna. Requirements for Rival Heart Events as well as their schedules are included in the Courtship and Marriage Guide.

Freyashawk said...

From my IoH Courtship and Marriage Guide, in the section entitled 'Rival Marriages':
As mentioned previously, it is not necessary to play with the heart levels
either of eligible partners or your Rivals in Island of Happiness after
marriage in order to trigger the Rival Heart Events. Once you marry, provided
you have met the requirement in terms of years, the Rival Heart Events will
trigger effortlessly even if you had all eligible bachelors or girls at
deepest red heart level when you married.

The reason for this is that the heart levels of Eligible Bachelors or Girls
are viewed as Friendship levels rather than Affection/Love levels AFTER your
marriage. The best strategy if you enjoy Events in Harvest Moon would be to
raise the heart levels of ALL Eligible Bachelor or Girls and experience all
four heart events for each before choosing to marry anyone in the third or
fourth year. In the fourth year, you then should be able to facilitate all
Rival weddings, unless you married a character for whom a Rival exists.

On 13 April, an Anonymous player posted the following comment here: i am happily married to shea, i married him on my 2nd year on fall 10th, he is so cute to have arround. we now have a daughter who was born on the 13th of spring of our 3rs year, i am now on my 4th year and i cant wait for aurora (our daughter) to be walking and able to go to the festivles. before my house was robbed and my game was stollen i was an ameture player and married denny but never got far, but now in my married familly life with shea i am very wealthy with about 95% on the island, to those who are confused about shea you do not see his heart until after marraige and then all the other bacholors heart bangles dissapear. i was very happy when i saw the red heart after not seeing it before.

Freyashawk, I would just like to thank you for informing me of how Vaughn acts when the female player marries him. I was on 7 small hearts on the assets list and was going to do the yellow heart event, but I think now I will switch to Shea, because Vaughn sounds even more despondent as a husband.

Freyashawk said...

Oh dear, I certainly didn't intend to put any one OFF Vaughn! He does represent a certain type of character, however... if you don't care for that sort, then despite the allure of his silver hair, you probably will be happier with Shea. Of course, Shea is not much of a conversationalist, either. Even so, the wedding ceremony with Shea is something every player needs to experience. It's absolutely extraordinary!

Why are the siler haired ones always the most attractive!?! I married Vaughn and on our 2nd year of marriage he only said three things , "So this is marriage, I never had any good memories as a child." and what do I do know, I dont knoe how to be a father." Are all the guys like that?? Cause now I'm going after Shea, or Denny on my other file.

Shea is so adorable, i was in-between with Vaughn and Shea, and i'm definitely glad i went with Shea, he's just too cute! I think it's adorable how after the marriage he will say 'Happy. I love Odin!' (name of my character), and he has his little blush face going on X_X Too cute, haha.

But, i do have one question- He visits Wada after the marriage though, always looking down saying 'Worried about Wada. Wada is alone.', so what happens to Wada? Does he stay alone? Or.... ??

~~~~~~
Actually I wanted to know why too...I reload the game a couple of times, and yet I couldn't figure out why Vaughn wouldn't except any gifts at all!
I slept a few days and gave him a gift, I talk to him for a couple of day then gave him a gift, and I gave him a variation of gifts ranging from: porridge, milk, mushroom, lassie, apple pie, pudding and omelets!
Why won't he accept anything T~T
Freyashawk said...
Leia, I experienced the same thing when I married Vaughn, although I gave him a gift each time he visited the Island. I believe it is akin to a glitch perhaps that occurs because of the change in Vaughn's schedule from two days on the Island to 7. I think the game must count the days that he was absent as days when YOU ignored him! Within a week of marriage, Vaughn was accepting his favourite gifts happily in my game, and in those of other players. In any situation in both IoH and SI when a character won't take your gifts, it is because of 'neglect' and if you keep trying, one day (six days MAXIMUM wait), the character will accept. In Vaughn's case, his unjustifiable behaviour continued only a couple of days.
Freyashawk said...
Sage, I am sorry I did not see your comment when you first posted it. Wada will not marry in IoH... I do not know if you are aware of this, but Wada is a REAL person who has a high position with the creators of Harvest Moon! (I don't know if he is married or not in real life, but his character is delightfully eccentric. It was an 'in-joke' to name Shea's adopted father Wada.) Shea's dialogue after marriage simply shows his deep love and respect for his adopted parent. I think it is intended to encourage you to visit Wada regularly! If you do not have a high level of friendship with Wada, by the way, you will not be able to experience the gifts from Manfred.
Freyashawk said...
Leia, a note of caution: sleeping through days constitutes 'neglect' in terms of your relationships with other characters. By sleeping through the days, you were ignoring your spouse, Vaughn. It therefore makes perfect sense that he would continue to refuse your gifts.
Leia said...
I see!!! That makes so much sense now! ^_^ Thanks so much! I'll go work on it now~~
Hey,
So I am planning to marry Shea. I have him at 10 hearts, have experienced all the heart events for him, upgraded my house to large, bought the husband bed, bought the blue feather, have all 23 Main Characters on the island, AND have the Harvest Goddess up to 2 hearts yet Shea still won't accept my proposal!?? What am I missing? Please help! Thank you :)
Anonymous said...
I think Shea is so Cute! But I hav him at 10 hearts and the goddess at 2 hearts AND experienced all of his events, upgraded my house, and then got all of the 23 characters. But he still won't marry Me! Can anyone help?
P. S. It may have to do with the way my birthday is on the same day as his birthday. (in the game of course)
Anonymous said...
Guys, I don't think Shea will accept because you need to receive Shea's sunstone AND Wada's sunstone. But, good luck anyway. Hope I helped. He is my fav bachelor on there.
For the pregnancy event, when Dr. Trent tells your girl that she's pregnant and says congratulations, Shea wonders what kind of disease 'congratulations' is. It's so funny!!
Anonymous said...
Well. I am trying to marry Shea. I just need the last heart event, the strength test, but I cannot get it. How many hearts does Shea need to be at? I have him at 6, is this enough?
Anonymous said...
I'm fishing at my ranch, right. And I see this little yellow dot that moves? Is this important, or is it just decoration?
Freyashawk said...
To answer the question about Heart Level first, Yellow Heart Level is approximately 7 Hearts. It actually is measured in point values that you cannot see in the game from 40,000 points to 49,999 points. You therefore have not reached a high enough level to experience Shea's Yellow Heart Event at 6 hearts.
To answer the question about the 'yellow dots', if it is the Summer Season, they are fireflies and many players, including people who officially were involved with the game, wasted many hours trying to catch them in vain before they realised that they were nothing more than the lovely fireflies found in many Harvest Moon games.
I'm planning on marrying Shea and I already got him on all 10 hearts. I did all his heart events and I even have the blue feather. He won't accept. :/ Now I'm starting to think that maybe it's the year I'm in. I'm on year 2. How many years did it take for you to marry him?
Freyashawk said...
Although the original post dealt with Shea in Island of Happiness, half of the comments and questions posted here dealt with the Courtship of Shea in Sunshine Islands. If you are playing Sunshine Islands, you need to have received BOTH of Shea's Sun Stones AND Wada's Sun Stone before Shea will agree to your proposal. Let me know if you are playing IoH instead...
Anonymous said...
Oh yeah! Sorry..forgot to mention that. Yeah I'm playing IoH. :/
um, do you have to experience all the heart events of your future husband/wife before marrying them?
ummmmm... You really are wasting time with the goddess. Get ONE heart and you will be blessed, so who cares about two hearts.
Vaughn is never falling for dorks like...lanna? Wow. I just realized how cute shea is!
if you are trying to dump a guy who has any hearts, im the one. I will use lame eliot as an example. Give him milk. For denny, give him junk ore. For vaughn(if you dump him, i hate you!!!),give him a carrot,think of the dora song with a whole bunch of woophee cushions that are in time with it and scream. Pierre,(i hate him sooooooooooooo much id rather die than marry him)give him a failed dish or give him poison toadstool(Ioh)
After many months of thought (in other words the amount of time ti took me 2 FINALLY get all the charecters unlocked...lol) I began 2 think I was strong and would not end up marrying Vaughn and in 1 account I happily married Shea... come on he is just 2 CUTE and I am curious to see what he thinks about being a father (If u can have a kid with wadda in HMFoM then u must b able 2 have one wit Shea!!) But I didn't have a boy acount as Mark... I had my feather above my head, walking into Marks room, even though I'm not fond of him..., I went up 2 him and was about 2 press A until I was like who am I kidding and ran out of the room 2 Vaughen... If tht was real life I would have probably wounded Marks heart 4 life... thank god it isn't XD
