Fishing in Hero of Leaf Valley

'Save the Homeland' was a wonderful game, but I have to say that 'Hero of Leaf Valley' surpasses it in every way, at least in my view. Any aspect of 'Save the Homeland' that frustrated me somewhat has been changed and improved in HoLV.

Fishing is one aspect of the game that is immeasurably more fun and satisfying in HoLV. I was prepared to face a rather frustrating long initial phase of catching nothing, followed by a long procession of boots and empty bottles. Much to my delight, this was not my experience at all. There was a day or so when my Character had to go home without any fish, but after that, he at least was able to catch more than one Fish on any fishing expedition.

The actual Fishing mini-game is fun. Even more satisfying is the Character of Ponta and the 'Fish Prints' he creates. They are works of art, quite exquisite, a vast improvement upon the rather insipid King Fish prints that would be your only souvenir of catching some of the rare fish in older HM games.

Incidentally, the rule in HoLV that allows you to offer only one item per day to any Character as a Gift does not apply to 'collectors' such as Ponta (who collects fish) and Tim (who collects insects). You therefore can continue to give Fish to Ponta in the course of a single encounter until you have obtained everything you wish.

Bedeviling Tom Nook in Animal Crossing

I decided to take a break from Rune Factory 2, although I had reached an exciting point in the game, simply because tomorrow is Thanksgiving and Animal Crossing runs on real time. If the famous Turkey is to appear, it will be tomorrow I daresay. I missed him sorely in Wild World as well as other holiday characters like Jingles. I have heard they have been reinstated and there are even new holiday character additions in City Folk.

In any case, I had the option to transfer my character from Wild world to City Folk but when I found my DS card and accessed my village, it was choked with weeds, and my character's pockets were filled with rare fish and insects... and she had all sorts of letters stuffed with rare items. I had heard that your character would be stripped of any special clothing, items in the rucksack and any income as well if he/she were to be transferred to City Folk, so in the end, I began a totally new game.

So here I am, where I never intended to find myself again, working for that shifty raccoon part-time! Having played a rather amusing trick on him in Wild World, I determined to try it again.

When he gave me my 'work outfit' and ordered me to change, I prompty took the clothing outside and dropped it on the ground, then returned to my temporary master.

How outraged he was! He couldn't imagine what I had done with the outfit, but told me he would give me another, 'but now I must insist you change!'

I repeated the performance, dropping the 2nd offensive outfit on the ground. (It looks like prisoner garb to me.)

Tom Nook: You haven't changed yet! And what did you do with your work clothes, hm?!
Once again: 'Hmmmph... I'll give you another one, but now I must insist you change!'

I admit it is rather silly but it had me in stitches once again, and after all, shouldn't one try to trick the Trickster once in a while?

N.B. The screenshot shows 4 of the despicable discarded 'work uniforms' on the ground and my character still was determined to defy Tom Nook further, but you can't beat Tom Nook in Animal Crossing... and I ultimately don't have time for this!!!

For all Harvest Moon fans and players

As Freyashawk, I have written about 150 guides for games, most of which have been guides for Harvest Moon games. These are published on IGN. IGN has given me the title of 'Mistress of Harvest Moon' and I strive daily to earn the right to maintain that title. Although there is a link page on IGN that lists all the guides published there, they are not organised by game, but rather given in alphabetical order. I therefore created this page in order to provide links to the guides I have created for each Harvest Moon game. If you access the General Guide for any game, links should be included to all other guides for that game in a section at the end. I will try to add links to ALL guides as time permits, but until I do, you always can refer to my user page at IGN for the complete list.

How to Use my Guides

I write three different basic types of game guides. I usually write a General Guide for every game, which is fairly comprehensive and deals with all aspects of the game. It may or may not be in the form of a Walkthrough, dealing with game aspects as they occur. My Innocent Life General Guide is an example of a General Guide that is organised as a Walkthrough.

After writing a General Comprehensive Guide, I often write a Calendar Guide giving birthday and festival dates, with additional information that may be helpful, such as favourite gifts for each individual. For all Harvest Moon games, I usually write a number of 'mini-guides', such as Events Guides for each year of gameplay, or Recipe Guides that give all recipes one can make. Fishing, Mining, Shipping or Item Value Guides are other mini-guides that can be very useful when playing Harvest Moon. Character Guides give detailed information about every character in any specific game. My Courtship and Marriage Guide is devoted to all aspects of Courtship and Marriage, including schedules of Heart Events, Rival Heart Events and the likes and dislikes of every Eligible Girl and/or Bachelor.

Although this site is devoted to Harvest Moon, I have included links to game guides for other games. I created a separate link section for Animal Crossing Wild World as well, because I wrote more than one guide for that game.

N.B. All my game guides are published by IGN. This webpage has been created simply to allow players to find links to all my guides more easily.

It is really sad to discover that there are individuals who are willing to steal my guides and to attempt to publish them under their names. Fortunately, there are many players who recognise my guides when they see them anywhere on the internet and who are willing to alert me when some one tries to steal my material. I want to thank all those players for their help in these cases.

Some one stole one of my guides and tried to publish it on Gamefaqs under his/her name. The guide has been removed and the poster has been banned. I now have a contact in the Legal Department at CNet. I spend many months sometimes writing a guide. They are available for the private use of any individual without cost, but they are not available for theft!

Friends of Mineral Town and More Friends of Mineral Town

You will notice that I wrote far more guides for More Friends of Mineral Town than I did for the original 'Friends of Mineral Town'. At some point, I would like to publish more specific Events Guides for Friends of Mineral Town, but players should be aware of the fact that ALL Calendar Events Guides for MFoMT can be used when playing the original FoMT. The Events are the same in most cases in both games. If, therefore, you are playing FoMT and you wish to know the events that can be experienced in the third year of gameplay, refer to the 'Third Year Calendar Events Guide' for 'More Friends of Mineral Town'.
